The Rev. Julie Conrady

Picture book #1
Subject: Death, Grief, and Loss for younger elementary children
Children's books on death and dying rarely go deep enough to confront the practical worries of children - the process of human death, learning about their family rituals, and how to begin moving through stages of grief.
I've written a picture book inspired by my years as a hospital chaplain watching hundreds of families navigate death and dying, and recognizing that few resources for families contain the nuance needed to discuss death with children. Most children's books on grief are focused on one particular religious dogma, while others skirt the human condition of death entirely through use of animal characters. Discussion questions for kids and their adults conclude my book.

Navigating Grief:
An Adult Acoompaniment to my Children's Book
My initial readers of my picture book about death and dying are excited to have a book to share with their children about a difficult subject - while also realizing they have questions processing their own grief, and requested a supplement to my children's book.
Throughout my hospital experience, I sat with over 800 patients and families through those final moments, and have additional perspectives from my personal experiences and my continued parish ministry. This book is organized by chapters, to help adults dip in and read what they need in that moment.
I am currently writing this book.

Biography of Rev. Alfred Hobart
Title Yet Determined
Inspired by the activism of the Founding Minister our Birmingham congregation, I am currently researching and working with his family to create a biography of the untold heroism of Rev. Alfred Hobart.
